"No one lights a lamp and puts It in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, so that those who come in may see the light."
As I read this verse, I instantly think of the words discipleship and evangelist. No one lights a lamp so the light can be hidden- no, it is lit so that it can illuminate the room and darkness can no longer linger. When a light turns on, it not only allows the person who flipped the switch on to see, but everyone around.
We attend church and learn, we learn to lean into God all the while cultivating a relationship where He gives us relevation about His word and character. As we dive deeper into His word, He is pouring out heavenly knowledge and wisdom, we are obtaining oil.
God commands us to love one another (John 13:34), and it dawns on me; to love one another is not to withhold but to share, to share the knowledge of Jesus and the life He lived which was sacrificial and abounding in love. Before Jesus left, He told the disciples to go into the world and make disciples (Matthew 28:19). Go and share about the One who saves, tell of his parables so others too can learn and live as Christ did.
We are commanded to love one another and are given direction to go out into the world to share the good news (the gospel), do not hoard all that God reveals - daily sanctification is turning to Him and knowing him intimately, this is done by us pursuing constantly and consistently and Him revealing.
Gain your oil, light the lamp and allow God's wisdom to illuminate through you. We are not meant to gain and cultivate oil to keep it hidden. Love one another, share the revelations. It is amazing to see others light up with excitement about what the Lord is walking them through and teaching them. Share the light with others, you never know what spark will ignite, confirmation or echo that may be released to the person on the other end of the conversation.
